Abigail...In A Bad Marriage, Yet Used By God.

Another lady in our study is Abigail. She was married to a rich, selfish and drunken "fool", by the name of Nabal. Abigail rose above her circumstances and demonstrated great pose and faith in her actions to save her family and keeping David from making a foolish mistake also. David was offended by Abigail's drunken and selfish husband and gathered his army together to kill him. But God used Abigail to protect the future King David and to protect her own husband from a savage death. As with many of us, David felt he had the right to react even more harshly against one who had offended him. Abigail gathered alot of food to feed David's entire army and then went to meet with David. She met David on his way to confront Nabal and she took the entire blame for the situation on her shoulders. So in Abigail we see a lady who was devoted to her husband, even though he was a selfish drunk, a lady who listened to God's calling in her life and a lady who was willing to humble herself in front of an entire army of strangers. David knew that Abagail was a "God Send" and he listened to her and did not kill Nabal,as planned. As the story goes on, Nabal died and David then took Abigail to be his wife. It is sometimes very easy to not take the time to ask God or listen to God in many of our decisions in life. We often just react immediately on impulse as David did. But God used Abigail to stop David from being foolish and reacting in anger. We all must understand God's way of thinking and his love, or the "fools" in our lives will be targets of our own critical remarks and anger, rather than an object of showing God's love through us. So once again, God used an ordinary woman, living in bad circumstances, to teach others what God wants us to learn.
